The scenery is one of the main key elements in every movie or TV series. In particular, our favourite movies or TV series settings help us identify fiction, characters or specific cult scenes at once. The wise use of colours, lines, lights, complements, and shots can be somewhat compared to the style choices of a costume designer, which with his work connotes the characters in different ways, in line with their personality and their narrative goals.

It should not be surprising to find that some floors marked the collective memory precisely because of their presence in a famous movie. As well as dresses, hairstyles or jewellery, they also find themselves in a mental memo that allows us to immediately identify their origin, and transform a simple feature movie into a cult production.

Furthermore, movies and TV series are always breeding ground for those who work as interior designer: watching scenery and settings carefully allows you to discover exceptional combinations, brilliant ideas in what concerns furnishing, current trends and future trends.

But what are the most famous floors on our screens over the years? From the white and black psychedelic floor of the Twin Peaks Black Loggia series to the marbles of the Disneyland Dance Hall of The Beauty and the Beast movie, the examples are a lot.

Meanwhile, here you can find the ones that we think are the most significant.

1. Saturday's Evening Fever: Perhaps the most popular movie for its narrative-level significance. After all, it is in the discotheque that John Travolta demonstrates to the audience that music never dies. This floor carries almost a character, and it was the launch pad for the career of an actor considered among the best of his generation.

2. The Wizard of Oz: in this movie the most famous element is the yellow brick road. Of course, it's not just a floor but it's still an iconic element so you can’t miss it on our list. It is related to the road that drives Dorothy, the protagonist of the movie, to Emerald City on her home trip to Kansas, and it is part of one of the most recognizable film scenes.

3. Big - Big: This beautiful movie of the eighties, featuring a young Tom Hanks, hides many unforgettable scenes. In one of them, however, the protagonist of a floor-piano responds to the pressure of the steps. It is in this scene that the fun of a twelve-year-old in the body of an adult and an old owner of a toy company is palpable, giving life to the focal moments of the movie.

4. The Great Lebowski: In this flaming worship, John has very clear ideas about floors and carpets-that stylistic element that can tie different environments between them. The classic Dadaist comedy signed by the Coen brothers is characterized by many remarkable moments, but in particular, in one of them, the protagonist of Drugo’s favourite carpet, suddenly ruined by an intruder plunged into the house. We fully understand the main character rage, who thinks that nothing more than that carpet could reveal the beauty of precious wood flooring!

5. Shining: Maybe one of the most terrifying horror movies ever made, as well as one of the most famous works by director Stanley Kubrick, in which you don’t see the main character of only a family victim in a hotel infested with myriad ghosts. The omnidirectional corridors of the Overlook Hotel, run for the entire length of the film by the little Danny, on his tricycle, are in fact characterized by the original design of the floor tiles, emulating the geometric style typical of the Seventies. Even the colours’ choice is not casual, oriented as it is on the tones of red, brown and orange. The tension throughout the film is palpable and the careful study of the scenery has certainly contributed to the left charm of this immortal film.
